You are invited to submit an abstract to the following special session
at this year's American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting:

Session C 24: Unraveling Disparities in Current Estimates of Global
Glacier Mass Balance

Session Description:
The diverse and seemingly contradictory estimates of present-day glacier
and ice sheet contributions to the ocean are a major issue facing those
who study glaciers, ice sheets, and sea level change today. These
disparities arise from true measurement uncertainties in synthesizing
regional and global estimates of ice volume change, from differences in
measurement techniques, from neglect of the critical and increasing role
of changes in outlet-glacier dynamics, and from rapid changes in glacier
and ice sheet response. While uncertainties in global mass balance
exist, the diverse sources of uncertainty and apparent contradictions
between some records create opportunities for misinterpretation and
adversely affect policy makers hesitant to implement changes aimed at
reducing the impacts of global climate change.

Organizers invite presentations aimed at resolving apparent
discrepancies and contradictions in current observations of global mass
balance, derived from all data sources, addressing surface, submarine,
and subglacial mass balance as well as dynamic responses, from small
mountain glaciers to Greenland and Antarctica.
