You are invited to submit an abstract to the following special session
at this year's American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting:

B30: Remote Sensing of Natural Wetlands

Session Description:
Natural wetlands, comprising saturated and flooded environments
associated with rivers, lakes, high water tables, and poorly-drained
permafrost, cover only approximately 4% of the Earth's ice-free land
surface but play a crucial role in hydrological and biogeochemical
cycles. They effect regional climates by storing water, increasing
evaporation, and altering the seasonality of runoff and river discharge
to the oceans and account for about 30% of the world's total methane
emissions. Despite their important role in global carbon and water
cycles, they remain poorly characterized over much of the Earth due to
the scarcity of regional-to-global remote sensing data characterizing
their distribution and dynamics.

This session will focus on 1) regional, continental, and global remote
sensing of wetlands, and 2) hydrological, biogeochemical, and climate
modeling that relies on these remote sensing data. Contributions are
welcome on mapping and characterization of wetland vegetation,
inundation dynamics, and seasonal-to-interannual wetlands processes.
