As part of Norway's research program for the International Polar Year
(IPY), the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI), Norway's central institution
for research, environmental monitoring, and mapping of the polar
regions, announces the following position openings:
1) Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Position in Sea Ice Physics
This three-year position will contribute to the IPY project "Integrated
Arctic Ocean Observing System (iAOOS)-Norway: Closing the Loop."
Applicants should have good knowledge of optical properties of sea ice
and snow and their role in the climate system. He/she also must hold a
Ph.D. or possess equivalent experience within sea ice physics.
Experience from fieldwork/cruises and optical snow and sea ice property
data analysis is an asset.

2) Postdoctoral Position in Ice Core Chemistry
This three-year position is part of an international collaboration
between US and Norwegian scientists that aims to understand climate
variability in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica on time scales of
years to one millennium and determine the mass balance of the ice sheet
in this sector to understand its impact on sea level change.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in ice core chemistry or other
relevant area within glaciology or atmospheric sciences. Polar field
experience is preferable.
