A Ph.D. position in arctic marine ecotoxicology is available at the
Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) and the Norwegian Institute for Water
Research (NIVA), involving studies of contaminants in polar cod and
zooplankton in relation to climate change. The position is a part of a
research project entitled "Influence of Climate Change on POP Dynamics
Using Kings Bay (Svalbard) as a Model Fjord Representing a Mini Climatic
Scenario."
Climatic changes not only influence the transport and exposure of
contaminants in the environment, but also the flux of carbon, and thus
contaminants, through the ecosystems. Just like the displacement of
water masses carries contaminants, they also carry zooplankton. The
successful candidate will be involved in studies of how contaminant flow
in the marine food web is related to changes in water masses, which
carry different signals of contaminants, particulate organic matter, and
zooplankton assemblage, all which will have an influence on the
contaminant flux.
Applicants should have a graduate degree in marine ecology,
ecotoxicology, or equivalent education with relevant course combination.
It is desirable that the applicant also has qualifications in
quantitative analyses (e.g. statistics, mathematics, physics, modelling)
and environmental chemistry.
Applications should include a CV, names of referees, and details of
relevant qualifications and experience. NPI prefers that an electronic
application is submitted at http://www.jobbnorge.no (Id nr 33609). If
this is not feasible, paper copies may be sent to:
