The University Centre in Svalbard is hosting the International Sea-Ice
Summer School on 2-13 July 2007. Aimed primarily at PhD and MS students
in geophysics, biology, chemistry, or other disciplines related to sea
ice, the school will provide a platform for interdisciplinary exchange
between students, postdocs, and senior scientists. The school is part of
an outreach program of the International Polar Year and is held in
association with the University of the Arctic.
The program of the school consists of lectures by senior scientists in a
wide variety of fields, computer exercises, and poster sessions. Topics
for lectures include ice-air-sea interaction in polar regions,
biogeochemistry of sea ice, sea ice dynamics, analytical and numerical
sea ice models, remote sensing, and the future of sea ice, among others.
Students interested in attending the summer school must submit an
application form and letter of recommendation from a senior scientist by
