The Government of Nunavut is hosting a workshop on taking action for
climate change adaptation in arctic communities on 6-8 December 2006 in
Iqaluit, Nunavut. With support from Natural Resources Canada, City of
Iqaluit, and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, a key focus of this workshop will
be to provide input on the development of a Nunavut Adaptation Plan.
This workshop will bring together key stakeholders interested in
regional and community climate change planning and decision-making in
arctic communities to discuss:
- incorporating adaptation into community planning and decision-making;
- incorporating local knowledge and scientific research into community
adaptation planning;
- raising awareness of adaptation options and existing adaptation tools;
and
- options for energy management and energy sources as opportunities for
successful adaptation planning.
This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to exchange
knowledge and share information on current activities and needs for
taking action on adaptation. The workshop will also enable researchers,
practitioners, decision-makers, and other stakeholders to develop
contacts and explore potential partnership opportunities. Participants
will also be asked to identify potential Nunavut communities for
subsequent community-level adaptation workshop(s) that will also provide
input on a Nunavut Adaptation Plan.
If you have any questions or would like to attend this workshop, please
