The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in Cambridge, UK, is accepting
applications for the position of physical oceanographer. The mission of
BAS is to undertake a world-class program of scientific research,
addressing key issues of global importance from an Antarctic and
Southern Ocean perspective.

The position is part of the Discovery 2010 program, which aims to
determine how ocean ecosystem structure and dynamics are related to
environmental variability and change. The successful candidate will
conduct physical oceanographic research, take part in research cruises
to Antarctica, analyze and interpret field data, present results at
conferences and publish in scientific journals, and coordinate closely
with biologists in the Discovery 2010 program to develop
interdisciplinary studies of the Southern Ocean and to further
understanding of physical controls on the marine ecosystem. The position
may also involve analysis of historical data, satellite data, remote
sensing data, and the output of numerical models.

Candidates must have a PhD in physical oceanography or equivalent, as
well as strong numerical, IT, and data analysis skills complemented by
sea-going experience and knowledge of at-sea processing methods.
