Proceedings from the Workshop on Facilitating U.S.-Russian Environmental
Change Research in the Russian Arctic, held in the U.S. Virgin Islands
in June 2005, are now available online.
Hosted by the Science Management Office for the Russian-American
Initiative on Shelf-Land Environments (RAISE) with funding from the NSF
Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Program, the workshop brought together
U.S. and Russian scientists, and Russian Academy and U.S. agency
representatives to discuss challenges and practical approaches that can
help facilitate successful field research in the Russian Arctic by
collaborating teams of U.S. and Russian scientists.
The workshop proceedings include an overview of the importance of
studies in the Russian Arctic to an overall understanding of the arctic
system, a funding trend analysis for NSF support of research in the
Russian Arctic, practical recommendations for scientists engaged in
Russian field research, and abstracts of presentations made at the
meeting.
