The University of Idaho, with funding from the National Science
Foundation (NSF), announces two graduate research assistantships (MS,
PhD) to study Antarctic and Arctic clouds.

The Masters project will infer the seasonal cycles of cloud
microphysical properties and cloud radiative forcing over South Pole
Station. The doctoral project will be part of the International Polar
Year and will increase fundamental understanding of both temporal and
spatial variability of arctic clouds by investigating (a) the macro- and
micro-physical properties of clouds at various locations in the Arctic,
(b) how the spatial and temporal variability of arctic cloud properties
depend upon regional forcing parameters, and (c) if satellite retrievals
yield similar cloud properties and variability to coincident
surface-based measurements.

Candidates should have a background in meteorology, geography, or a
related geoscience field and be familiar with Linux and Matlab. The
successful candidates will have the opportunity to receive a degree in
either environmental science or geography. Funding for the PhD position
depends upon final approval from NSF.

Online applications to the University of Idaho are available at

Geography at http://www.scihome.uidaho.edu/default.aspx?pid=89366.
