Researchers who will be submitting proposals under the current National
Science Foundation (NSF) International Polar Year solicitation and who
intend to include in their proposal a support letter and estimate from
VECO Polar Resources (VPR) for fieldwork logistics support are requested
to contact VPR by Monday, 26 February 2007, to request these documents.
Researchers are also encouraged to closely review the section "Proposals
Involving Arctic Field Work" in the NSF solicitation available at:
http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=501036.
Depending on the complexity of a researcher's proposed fieldwork and the
volume of requests VPR receives, it may take between three to six weeks
to develop an estimate. Because the NSF solicitation occurs at the
height of the planning season, VPR will be unable to fulfill proposal
estimate requests received after Monday, 26 February 2007. Please note
the deadline for proposals to the NSF International Polar Year
solicitation is Friday, 16 March 2007.
Researchers should submit field plans and support requirements to VPR
Planning Manager Diana Garcia-Lavigne at: diana [at] polarfield.com.
VPR is the arctic logistics contractor for NSF providing transportation,
field camps, communications, and infrastructure support to over 100
projects annually throughout the Arctic and near-Arctic.
