The Science Coordination Office of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS)
Divide Ice Core Project is seeking applicants for Science Technicians
for the field season lasting from November 2007 to January 2008. The
positions involve assisting in the drilling and ice core recovery
process on the WAIS Divide, a deep coring project in West Antarctica
funded by the National Science Foundation. The purpose of the project is
to collect an ice core from the region's flow divide in order to develop
a unique series of interrelated climate, ice dynamics, and biologic
records to understand interactions among global earth systems.
Graduate students, lab technicians, and other individuals working on
climate, glaciology, and cryobiology projects are encouraged to apply.
At least one position will involve public outreach activities including
videography and pod casts. Funding is restricted to applicants from the
U.S., though the Science Coordination Office expects to include up to
two non-U.S. students working on other ice core projects.
To learn more about the positions and to apply, please complete and
submit the application on the WAIS Divide Ice Core Project website at:
http://waisdivide.unh.edu/About/jobad.html
Review of applications will begin on Monday, 19 February 2007, and
continue until all positions are filled.
