The Institute for Geophysics at University of Muenster, Germany invites
applications for a postdoctoral research position in the field of
numerical modeling of ice-ocean interactions in Antarctica.
The successful candidate will work on a project funded by the German
Research Society to elucidate the influence of small-scale grounding
regions within ice shelves on the dynamics and mass budget of ice
rumples in selected Antarctic regions. As anchor points of ice shelf
flow, ice rises and ice rumples have limited spatial extent and are of
particular importance given the climate-induced changes in the
cryosphere. The project includes improving and coupling three existing
models for grounded ice, ice shelf, and ocean. The postdoctoral research
position involves coupled modeling of the ice shelf-ocean interactions.
Applicants must have a PhD in physical oceanography/geophysics/physics
and expertise in numerical modeling and application of numerical models
to the polar regions. Polar research experience is an advantage. The
position runs for two years, with a possible extension of one additional
year. University of Muenster encourages applications from women and will
give preference to applicants with disabilities.
To apply, please submit a CV, letter of interest, and list of
publications before Tuesday, 20 February 2007, to:
