The Polar Science Center at University of Washington and Pacific Science
Center announce the Second Annual Polar Science Weekend (PSW2007), a
four-day event with hands-on exhibits and activities, displays,
demonstrations, and lectures to provide the public with a look into the
world of polar research. PSW2007 will be held on 8-11 March 2007, at the
Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington.
PSW2007 is an opportunity for students, teachers, and the general public
to meet polar researchers and learn how technology has aided research
and what is being discovered about the complex environments in the
Arctic and Antarctic. Activities include:
- demonstrations on "Extreme Cold" and "Glacier Flow";
- "Arctic Ocean Research Stations Then and Now," an exhibit with
researchers who will explain what is involved in a workstation on the
ice;
- "Digital Antarctica," a photographic display by local photographer
Matthew Felton; and
- the IMAX film, "Antarctica," which takes viewers on a visit to the
South Pole and includes the story of the race to the pole by early
explorers.
PSW2007 is supported by the National Science Foundation. Teachers
wishing to schedule class visits to the event should contact:
