The School of the Environment and Society at Swansea University is
accepting applications for a postdoctoral research position in
glaciology/geophysics.
The School wishes to appoint a creative and innovative candidate for a
fixed term of up to 18 months to work on "RABID: Basal Conditions on
Rutford Ice Stream, West Antarctica: Hot-water Drilling and Down-hole
Instrumentation," a project funded by the Natural Environment Research
Council, Antarctic Funding Initiative (NERC AFI). The component of the
research undertaken by the research fellow will be interpretation of
borehole temperature data, laboratory work aimed at measuring properties
controlling the radar response on ice cores collected during the
project, and the interpretation of ground penetrating radar surveys.
Candidates must be creative, innovative, and have a PhD in geophysics,
glaciology, or a numerate geoscience discipline. Good interpersonal
communication and writing skills, enthusiasm, and commitment are
essential. The post is available on a job-sharing basis if appropriate.
