The Department of Geology at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS)
invites applications for a faculty position in marine and coastal
geology. Positions at UNIS carry significant responsibilities in
research and teaching, as well as supervising MSc and PhD students.
Research and teaching at the Department of Geology focus strongly on
field-related activities that exploit both the geographical position and
the natural advantages of Svalbard. The fjords and near-shore
environments around Svalbard offer excellent opportunities to study the
development and infill of sedimentary basins. UNIS is investing in a
new, 50-foot research vessel, which will enable easy access to fjord and
near-shore environments. In the coming years the successful candidate is
expected to develop UNIS as a research and teaching platform to take
maximum advantage of these resources.
Applicants with research experience in shallow-marine and fjord
environments will be given preference. The successful applicant must
also have relevant teaching experience and formal pedagogical education.
Research experience from Svalbard or other polar regions will be
considered an advantage and applicants must exhibit a commitment to
developing new or existing research programs in the arctic region. The
successful candidate will also be expected to develop new graduate and
postgraduate-level courses in marine and coastal geology, focusing on
the superb opportunities offered in the fjords and near-shore waters of
Svalbard.
Applicants must have a PhD in an appropriate field or equivalent and
submit a curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications and
previously held grants; education, pedagogic, or teaching certificates,
including a list of previously supervised graduate students; and copies
of five publications authored or co-authored by the candidate that s/he
wants to have evaluated for consideration of appointment to the
position.
Applications may be submitted electronically to:
E-mail: post [at] unis.no
or via regular mail (in three complete copies) to:
