The Department of Biology and Wildlife and the Institute of Arctic
Biology (IAB) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) seek
applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Ecology open at the
Assistant or Associate level. Specifically, UAF seeks an ecologist
studying mechanisms of change in ecological systems or social-ecological
systems.

The successful applicant will be expected to sustain an independent and
externally funded research program, teach two courses per year at the
undergraduate or graduate levels, and train graduate students.
Opportunities exist for interacting with the Bonanza Creek (BNZ) Long
Term Ecological Research (LTER) program, which investigates the
interactive effects of changing climate and disturbance regimes on the
boreal forest of interior Alaska and associated consequences for
climatic feedbacks and sustainability of subsistence-based Alaskan
communities.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Ecology or related discipline and
have records of research and teaching, extramural funding, publications,
and graduate mentoring commensurate with the rank of appointment. The
position will be a joint appointment between the Institute of Arctic
Biology and the Department of Biology and Wildlife at UAF.

The Park Cultural Resources Programs of the Cultural Resources
Directorate at the National Park Service (NPS) is seeking a dynamic
leader to serve as the Chief Anthropologist for the Anthropology and
American Cultures Program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. The
position will be based in Washington, DC.

The successful candidate will guide policy development, direction,
coordination, and oversight in the field of cultural anthropology for
the NPS. The position's responsibilities include:

- Planning, designing, and directing work related to the Cultural
Anthropology Program and programs supporting work with diverse
communities including: Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native
Hawaiians, as well as other groups culturally affiliated with park
units.
- Overseeing projects, special studies, publications, and exhibits;
issuing guidelines and standards; and developing long-range goals
for the programs.
- Providing technical expertise, advice, and analysis required to
manage available resources to reach decisions and establish and
implement the objectives of the Associate Director, Cultural
Resources and the NPS.

The Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution's National
Museum of Natural History is seeking a program manager for Recovering
Voices, an interdisciplinary Smithsonian program that is working with
communities to document and sustain endangered languages and knowledge.
The position will be based in Washington, DC.

The Recovering Voices program manager will be responsible for the
overall management and administration of the program through planning
projects, workshops, symposia, conferences, outreach (including website
development), budget, and fundraising/ development activities. In tandem
with the Recovering Voices team, the program manager will create
long-term partnerships with communities world-wide and will foster
collaborations built upon community engagement. The Smithsonian's
linguistic, pictorial, photographic, and film holdings of the National
Anthropological Archives, the Film Archives, and the museum's object
collections are essential to this endeavor.

The ideal candidate will have a background (PhD preferred) in
anthropology, linguistics, human geography, or related fields, with an
emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to language endangerment or
endangered knowledge systems. Experience in successful grant writing
and/or fundraising is sought. Frequent domestic and international travel
will be necessary.

    Archaeology

RK Harritt and Associates LLC seeks two research assistants for
part-time positions. The positions' duration will preferably be from
mid-October 2011 to mid-April 2012. They are based in Anchorage, Alaska.

Successful applicants will assist with the processing and analysis of
artifact collections and data from sites located at Wales on the western
Seward Peninsula, Alaska. Experience and skills should minimally include
completion of an archaeological field school, and completion of
introductory archaeology courses. Archaeology lab experience and
completion of an archaeological methods and techniques course are
preferred.
