Interdisciplinary Climate Change Research Symposium
13-20 October 2012

Organizers of the "Interdisciplinary Climate Change Research Symposium"
announce a call for abstracts and applications. This symposium is for
early-career climate change researchers. The symposium is hosted by
Dissertations Initiative for the Advancement of Climate Change Research
(DISCCRS), and is scheduled for 13-20 October 2012 in Colorado Springs,
Colorado.

The goal is to catalyze international, interdisciplinary collaboration
while laying the foundation for dynamic, communicative collegial
networks that are better-equipped to understand and respond to the
myriad challenges posed by climate change. Thirty invited DISCCRS
Scholars will have the opportunity to present their research, hone
interdisciplinary communication and teambuilding skills, and discuss
emerging research and trends. Scholars will also have the chance to talk
about the societal and professional challenges involved in climate
change research, with each other and with established researchers
invited to serve as mentors.

Applications will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary committee of
research scientists. The selection committee will favor applicants who
plan to engage in interdisciplinary research careers in any subject
relevant to the study of climate change, its impacts or its solutions.
Interested researchers from the natural and social sciences,
mathematics, engineering, and other fields are encouraged to apply so
long as their research focus relates to climate change, its impacts, or
its solutions. Although the emphasis is on the U.S. research system,
applicants from all countries who are interested in learning about the
U.S. research system or connecting with U.S. researchers are welcome.
Airfare and on-site expenses are supported through grants from NSF and
NASA.

REMINDER: Registration and Call for Abstracts
42nd Annual International Arctic Workshop
7-9 March 2012

The 42nd Annual International Arctic Workshop will be held 7-9 March
2012 at the Winter Park Hotel in Winter Park, Colorado. Registration and
abstract submission are now available online at:
http://instaar.colorado.edu/meetings/AW2012/.

The meeting is open to all interested in the Arctic, and will consist of
a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of
high-latitude environments, past and present. Previous Arctic Workshops
have included presentations on arctic and Antarctic climate,
archaeology, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, hydrology,
glaciology, soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more.

The Arctic Workshop strives for a relatively small, friendly, and
informal gathering and has no formalized topics. The program is
organized around themes developed from the abstracts submitted for
presentation as well as special themes promoted by attendees. Student
participation is strongly encouraged with partial support available to a
limited number of those making presentations.

Workshop Announcement
7th Antarctic Meteorological Observation, Modeling, and
Forecasting Workshop
9-12 July 2012
Boulder, Colorado

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the University
of Colorado announce the 7th Antarctic Meteorological Observation,
Modeling, and Forecasting Workshop to be held 9-12 July 2012 in Boulder,
Colorado.

The workshop brings together those with both research and operational
interests in Antarctic meteorology and forecasting and related
disciplines. It serves as a forum for current results, ideas, and issues
in Antarctic meteorology, numerical weather prediction, and forecasting.
Topics related to these, including meteorological issues of Antarctic
logistical efforts, are welcome.

Organizers are soliciting participation from all who are interested.
Talks are encouraged, although posters are also welcome. Workshop
schedule details will be posted after submissions are received. Further
information on the workshop will be distributed as available.
