The International Conference for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) announces its 2008 annual science conference to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 22-26 September 2008. In addition to plenary lectures, the conference will include 18 different sessions on various aspects of marine research, including comparative ecosystem studies, ecosystem health, climate and ocean change and signals from the ecosystem at different levels, modeling and new technologies, conservation issues, and new concepts of valuing nature and ecosystem structure.

ICES coordinates and promotes marine research in the North Atlantic. ICES scientists comprise a group of more than 1,600 marine scientists from over 20 countries, and acts as a primary source for policy advice on the marine ecosystem to governments and international regulatory bodies of the North Atlantic Ocean and surrounding seas.

Participants are invited to submit one or more abstracts to the ICES Secretariat in Copenhagen. All abstracts must be submitted to a particular theme session, using the online abstract submission form. Those that do not conform to the guidelines will not be accepted. Abstracts must be received by Monday, 21 April 2008.
