--------------------
The Arctic Palaeoclimate and its Extremes (APEX) Second International Conference will be held on 1-4 April 2008, in Durham, UK. The conference will comprise two and a half days of presentations and discussions on current arctic research, including those related to the International Polar Year 2007-2008.

APEX is a network research program aiming to understand arctic climatic changes beyond instrumental records and which builds on the work of PONAM and QUEEN. The particular emphasis is on the magnitude/frequency of climate variability and, in particular, the "extremes" versus "normal" conditions of the climate system. It is an interdisciplinary program that integrates marine and terrestrial science and utilizes modeling and field observations. APEX involves scientists from fifteen European countries, Canada, and USA, and is one of the coordinating programs for palaeoclimate research during 2007-2008.

Delegates are invited to submit an abstract for either a presentation or poster. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 29 February 2008. More information is available at:
http://www.apex.geo.su.se/meetings/abstract-submission-3.html

There is a limited amount of funding available for travel support, particularly for participants from Eastern Europe and postgraduate students. Applicants should submit a short CV and travel budget by Friday, 8 February 2008, to:
