The research vessel Aranda, completed in 1989, is owned by the Finnish Institute of Marine Research, and its home port is Helsinki. Aranda is a modern, ice-reinforced research vessel adapted to multidisciplinary marine research around the year. Its length is 59.2 m, beam 13.8 m and gross register weight 1734 GT. Aranda is capable of working at sea continuously for 60 days. The ship accomodates a 25 person research staff and a crew of 12-13. Aranda was originally planned for Baltic Sea research, but has proved herself on the high seas as well. She has visited the Arctic Ocean and made two expeditions to the Antarctic.
