Toolik Field Station is located in the northern foothills of the Brooks Range on the southeast shore of Toolik Lake (68°38'N, 149°38'W, elevation 720 m). It is accessible by road via the Dalton Highway. The station has a shuttle which provides transportation from Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay to TFS by prior arrangement. Alaska Airlines serves Deadhorse with scheduled flights.

Special considerations regarding access to this site:   It is possible to drive to Toolik Field Station via the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks, however this should not be undertaken lightly. The Dalton Highway is rough, muddy/dusty, and lacks services. Drivers must be well informed and prepared. Most TFS users fly via commercial airline to Deadhorse and use the Toolik shuttle service.

Lodging:   About 1/3 of the researchers at Toolik sleep in personal tents. In the summer, the indoor lodging can accommodate 40 researchers and up to 70-80 for short periods. In the winter, less than 10 people can be accommodated indoors.   Year-round.
Storage:   Storage space is extremely limited. Security of stored equipment over the winter is a concern.   
Sanitation:   Outhouse, one sink with running water, one clothes washer and dryer, and one shower.
