M/S POLARSYSSEL is a 50 meter icebreaking expedition and research vessel, made for operations in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. The vessel is leased to the Governor of Svalbard for part of the year, and the rest of the time it is mostly used for research projects. The ship is equipped with licensed helicopter handling equipment and can receive and land helicopters up to the size of Super Puma. Polarsyssel (formerly Polar Circle) based in Tromsø and Longyearbyen, has a long history of research cruises in the far north Atlantic.
