Session Announcement - GIS and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Scientific Research

June 8, 2007

Session Announcement GIS and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Scientific Research Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) International Users Conference Tuesday, 19 June 2007 San Diego, California For further information, please contact: Allison Gaylord Nuna Technologies Phone: 907-399-1120 E-mail: nunatech@usa.net -------------------- A Special Interest Group Exploratory Session entitled, "GIS and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Scientific Research" will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 19 June 2007, at the San Diego Convention Center, Room 23B. The special session is being held in conjunction with the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) International Users Conference. The use of GIS technology and the establishment of effective federations for spatial data sharing are growing issues within the scientific research communities around the world. There are many unique aspects and issues particular to scientific research and how it is conducted, however, that are not well served by mainstream GIS and SDI. The purpose of this meeting is to review some of these issues and needs, determine the level of interest in the establishment of a Scientific Research GIS/SDI Special Interest Group (SIG), and if positive, lay the groundwork for mobilizing this SIG. A series of presentations describing regional SDI efforts are scheduled at the ESRI conference on June 19-20. For further information about the conference, please go to: http://www.esri.com/events/uc/index.html Individuals interested in the SIG Exploratory Session, including those unable to attend, are encouraged to contact: Allison Gaylord Nuna Technologies Phone: 907-399-1120 E-mail: nunatech@usa.net
